The Dutch speed skating team didn’t want to participate in the European Championship, which Russia is hosting. Some members of the team, the dominant power in speed skating, said they were considering a boycott of the Championships. They are still thinking that Russian is involved in shooting down of a Malaysian Airlines flight from Amsterdam over Ukraine last year. However all of them were told to shut up and to participate.
The Dutch skating association KNSB director Paul Sanders said the following:
"We strictly keep sport and politics separate, and that is the reason I am here. We come here to see beautiful sport."
Let’s leave politics for politicians, and sport for sportsmen.
